What does the radiography mean?

Due to the properties of the X-rays of penetrating the organic material and producing a photographic effect on the photosensitive surface, the radiography is the purpose of a primary intention diagnostic in various diseases and symptoms of the body.

The radiography may reveal several body abnormalities:

  • The position to and relation with the surrounding organs;
  • Size;
  • Line;
  • Density;
  • Architectonics;
  • Functionality;
  • Treatment response;

All the above mentioned may generate a radiological diagnostic in various diseases of the respiratory, osteoarticular, renal and bladder system.

Description of the investigation

The patient’s preparation for the performance of radiography consists in removing all the metallic materials which may overlap on the area to be X-rayed, and the cooperation with the radiologist technician is essential in order to achieve a high quality radiography image. We refer here to the inspiration-exhalation instructions (apnea or breath holding) that the patient must follow.

A special preparation is necessary when performing an urography (contrast-enhanced investigation of the urinary system).

The term of the radiography consists of the following times:

  • The exposure time: a few milliseconds;
  • The image developing and processing time: 5 minutes;
  • Interpretation and diagnostic time: up to 24 hours.

The continuous evolution and the progress registered in the recent years in the medical device industry are also found within the conventional radiology field. Nowadays, we can process the radiography images both in classic format (Kodak film) and in digital format (CD).

We consider that the short working time, the low price for an investigation by means of a radiography, the low level of patient’s preparation and the low level of irradiation – the equivalent of lung exposure is 2 weeks of natural exposure – makes the radiography the primary intention examination for the diagnostic of several pathologies.
